The Prosecutor General's Office said on Tuesday the investigation was carried out into crimes against humanity and war crimes.
Prosecutors want suspicions against leaders of the Communist Party, top officials of ministries of defense, interior affairs, the KGB and the officers who were involved in the attack of the Press House, the TV Tower, the Lithuanian National Radio and Television building, reads the press release.
If found guilty of the crimes, the individuals could receive sentences ranging from several years to life in prison.
"A major breakthrough in the investigation was made possible by the amendments to the Code of Criminal Process and the Criminal Code, which facilitated criminal proceedings for crimes against humanity and war crimes. The amendments allow finishing the pre-trial investigation without participation of the suspect in the proceedings," the Prosecutor General's Office said in the press release.
