The search was launched after the man's wife, 83, asked the police to find him on Tuesday. The woman said she wanted to divorce her husband.

The woman said her husband left home in the summer of 1971 and disappeared. He would previously leave home but would return after some time, the woman said, adding that she had not looked for him as, she thought, he would come back.

Local police told BNS they did not ask the woman why she wanted to find her husband only now. They believe the woman wants to leave all her property to her children and her husband's signature is required on documents. As long as she doesn’t have her husband's death certificate, she is officially married. Only court can declare a person dead.

The woman believes her husband is dead.
