"The court extended suspension for the maximum term. There's no talk about the end of the case yet but the application of such a measure will let speed up the pre-trial investigation," prosecutor Aurelija Gališanskytė told BNS on Monday.

There are 15 suspects, including Balčiūnas, in this criminal case. The suspects include civil servants at Panevėžys City Municipality and one lawyer. Their names are not disclosed.

Balčiūnas currently works as a commercial and project development manager at the federation.

Balčiūnas is suspected of fraud, jobbery, document forgery, possession of a forged document, and bribery.

Panevėžys prosecutors, in cooperation with officers from the Special Investigations Service, are carrying out a pre-trial investigation into alleged jobbery, fraud, and document forgery and are looking into alleged illegal use of municipal funds for the reconstruction of hotel Romantic.

Prosecutors suspect there may have been a plan before the 2011 European Basketball Championship to unlawfully reconstruct the hotel owned by Via Unica company using municipal funds.
