The number indicates a rise by 20 percent since 2011. The number of crimes solved in 2012 was 52 percent, as compared to 45 percent in the year before.

Last year, 82,492 criminal offences were reported, indicating a rise by 3.7 percent year-on-year.

According to the press release, the growth can be explained by the new law on domestic violence, which took effect in the end of 2011 and which requires that investigations be opened into all reported cases of domestic violence.
