According to the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, border guards stopped a BMW 316 with Polish registrations plates, leaving Lithuania, on Wednesday night. The car was driven by a Polish citizen, 36. He provided all necessary documents but the border guards found the other three occupants of the vehicles suspicious. The men had no documents and said they were Vietnamese citizens, aged 20, 21, and 23.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched against the Polish citizen for illegally taking people over the state border. The man was taken into custody and is facing a fine, arrest or up to 6 years in prison.
The Vietnamese were taken to the Foreigners' Registration Center in Pabradė.
All in all, Lithuanian border guards have detained 49 Vietnamese citizens who entered Lithuania illegally so far this year, with the majority – 40 – of them detained on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border.
