Ms Prunskienė's brain started swelling on Monday evening and she was taken to Vilnius University Emergency Hospital for a neurosurgical procedure. A brain surgery was performed to relieve the swelling, 15min.lt sources have confirmed. Her condition is critical, but no longer life-threatening.
Ms Prunskienė's was found unconscious by her friends on Sunday. That evening she had plans to celebrate her birthday in a restaurant, but when her friends came to fetch her, no one answered the door. Finally, her relatives forced the door open and found the woman unconscious. She was instantly taken to hospital and put under observation in intensive care unit.
It is reported, that Prunskienė suffered a stroke when a clot obstructed one of the main arteries in her brain.
As Lithuanian People's Party spokeswoman Danguolė Tautvydienė informed 15min.lt on Monday morning, Ms Prunskienė's condition had been stabilized.
"Something is wrong with her bloodstream, there is no specific diagnosis yet, she is being tested," Ms Tautvydienė said.
Ms Prunskienė's relatives say her condition was stabilized after Monday's procedure.
