Prosecutors see no need for additional evidence in Labor Party's case

The Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office says that Vilnius court should overrule the majority of the motions filed by defense lawyers in the Labor Party's bookkeeping fraud case.

The court should hand down its finding on the motions on Friday.

Prosecutor Saulius Verseckas, who is in charge of the case, says that no more witnesses should be summoned to court, adding that it was enough to publish pre-trial testimony of some of the witnesses.

The defense lawyers have earlier said the documents submitted to the court contained mistakes made by specialists; however, Verseckas emphasized the mistakes had no major effect on the main circumstances of the bookkeeping fraud.

In the prosecutor's opinion, should the court decide to question experts, questions would have to be sent in advance so that they had time to analyze them and remember the investigation performed six years ago.

During Tuesday's hearing, lawyers of the Labor Party submitted about a dozen pleas.
