The Lithuanian Gay league appealed against Vilnius authorities' decision to ban a gay march through the Lithuanian capital's central Gediminas Avenue.
The organization says the decision runs counter to the goal of such a march, which is „to attract attention of the state and public to his social group and its social integration.“
The administration of Vilnius City Municipality says Upes Street a bit further from Vilnius center was proposed having information that „a threat to the public and march participants might arise during the march.“
The court said in a statement that the police had also told Upes Street was a better location for the march as „there's a threat of various items being thrown off roofs.“ Besides, public transport might be obstructed for several hours.
The first gay march in 2010 also took place on Upes Street. The location was cordoned off and protected as around a thousand of people gathered to protest against the gay march.
