The bulk of the sum (2.56 million litas) will be transferred to the ruling Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (conservatives), while opposition Social Democrats will get 1.76 million litas and another opposition force, Order and Justice party, will be granted 1.31 million litas.
The ruling Liberal and Center Union will get the grant of 730,913 litas calculated for its election performance in addition to the 826,293 litas granted to the National Revival Party that it merged with, consequently, the union will get a total of 1.56 million litas.
The grant to be transferred to the Labor Party amounts to 711,647 litas, it will also receive the state financing provided New Union, therefore, the Labor Party will get a total of 1.06 million litas.
The ruling Liberal Movement has been earmarked 696,277 litas, Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania and Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union will receive 653,238 litas and 535,963 litas, respectively.
Grants to political parties total 20.28 million litas in the state budget. The considerable increase in the financing to political parties is due to the law, which bans businesses from donating to parties, while individuals are allowed to make limited donations during political campaigns only.
In 2011, parties received over 5.4 million litas from the state budget, as compared to more than 9.5 million litas in 2010.
According to the law, the Central Electoral Commission is to distribute grants for the first six months by 15 April. The grants are calculated according to the results of the last election and are provided to parties that secured more than 3 percent of the vote.
This year's grants are calculated by the performance during the 2008 general election, 2009 election to the European Parliament and the 2011 election to local governments.
According to the calculations, parties received 2.35 litas per vote in the first half of 2012.
