Two leading candidates after the first round of voting – incumbent leader ex-PM Andrius Kubilius and MEP Vytautas Landsbergis – will vie in the run-off ballot.

According to final results cited by Alekna, Kubilius won the biggest share of votes (4,383 or 46 percent) in the first round, while Landsbergis was supported by 3,557 (37 percent) party members and MP Valentinas Stundys secured 1,588 votes (17 percent).

A total of 58 percent of party members cast their ballots in the voting.

Landsbergis' supporters mostly came from the country's largest cities of Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda and Panevėžys, while Kubilius was more popular with party members in smaller cities and rural areas. Stundys won the majority in Radviliškis branch.

Under the party's bylaws, the Conservatives' leader will be elected for a two-year term.

The direct election for the party's leadership are considered accomplished, if more than half of all members cast their ballots. Victory goes to the candidate who secures more than half of all votes.

The election results are to be approved by the party's congress planned for May 12.
