“A very interesting question, but it is merely your interpretation,” Grybauskaitė said on Friday, responding to a question whether she would seek the post.
“I will make the decision regarding my professional future only once the presidency is over, as I've said before, in the beginning of next year. I will be wherever the people of Lithuania want to see me,” she added.
It was Henri Malosse, the president of European Economic and Social Committee, who first hinted that Grybauskaitė is seen as a likely successor of Herman van Rompuy.
In April, he tweeted that “the meeting with the future EU president was promising.”
Grybauskaitė has previously stated that she will announce whether she will seek reelection as the president of Lithuania early next year. The Lithuanian presidential election will be held in May 2014.
