Energy minister submits investors' position on Visaginas NPP to prime minister

With the government getting ready to take the final decision on the project of a new Lithuanian nuclear power plant, Energy Minister Jaroslav Neverovič on Wednesday submitted a joint position of three Baltic energy companies and Hitachi on the nuclear facility to Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius.

“I received a joint opinion of the companies and the investor on the current project of a new nuclear facility from the energy minister. We see possibilities to improve the project. However, we will first discuss this issue in the political council and the government. Then we could make more detailed comments,” Butkevičius told BNS.

“A joint position of the governments of the three Baltic countries on the nuclear power plant will be discussed at the joint meeting of Baltic ministers in November. It should be a joint decision by the regional partners,” Evelina Butkutė-Lazdauskienė, Butkevičius’ spokeswoman told BNS.

Dalius Misiūnas, CEO of the energy holding company Lietuvos Energija (Lithuanian Energy), told BNS last week that the joint position of Baltic energy companies and Japan’s Hitachi on the Visaginas nuclear power plant project had already been worked out and presented to the Energy Ministry. He refused to make any detailed comments.
