Former president Valdas Adamkus receives award for support of Lithuanian-Polish cooperation

Former Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus received the Jan Nowak-Jezioranski Award for his support of Lithuanian-Polish cooperation on Monday in the Polish city of Wroclaw.

"President Adamkus has been awarded for his consistent support of the cooperation idea of Central and Eastern Europe, and especially between Lithuanian and Poland," Adamkus' bureau said in a statement.

The Jan Nowak-Jezioranski Award was established in 2004. The award ceremony is held every year on June 4, and the award is given to people and institutions contributing to the creation of structures and civil society in independent Poland.

Former awardees include the first non-Communist Polish Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki former United States President George H. W. Bush, former Czech President Vaclav Havel, and former chairman of the Belarusian Supreme Council Stanislav Shushkevich.
