Former rector of Vilnius University elected chairman of Lithuania's parliamentary Committee of Foreign Affairs

Former Rector of Vilnius University and member of the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, Benediktas Juodka, has been elected chairman of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs. Outgoing Conservative Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis will be his deputy.

Several Seimas committees elected their chairmen on Wednesday who are scheduled to be approved by the whole parliament later this week.

The Committees on National Security and Defense as well as on Legal Affairs are yet to elect their chairmen as committee meetings were adjourned due to changes in the committee make-up.

The ruling Social Democrats have 37 seats in the Seimas, followed by the Labour Party (29), the Order and Justice Party (11), and the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (8), or 85 seats in the 141-seat Seimas.
