The main political opponents call on the Cabinet to find agreement among its members as soon as possible while the allies doubt whether it would be appropriate to ask the nation to state its opinion on the same subject once again.

Lithuanian opposition leader Andrius Kubilius of the Conservatives believes that the nuclear facility project has now “acquired new quality” and it would actually face no political opposition if the government approved its further development.

Meanwhile, Eligijus Masiulis, the leader of opposition Liberals, admitted that he was skeptical about the referendum’s idea.

Labor MP Kęstutis Daukšys, the chair of parliamentary Economics Committee, believes that it is possible to hold a referendum on the nuclear facility once all parameters of the project are clear. Social Democratic MP Birutė Vesaitė, a member of Seimas’ Economics Committee, points out that first it is necessary to know whether the project will actually be implemented. Algimantas Dumbrava of the Labor party admits that he doubts whether the referendum is necessary.
