On October 16, the Energy Ministry received a letter from Gazprom inviting the country to continue discussions on the proposals put forward by Lithuania and try to agree on the positions of both parties and possible further actions, the Energy Ministry said in a press release.
Neverovič, the head of Lithuania’s negotiation team for talks with Gazprom, earlier admitted that Lithuania and Gazprom had not come to agreement yet. He then said that he hoped that Gazprom would lower the price of gas for Lithuania to at least "the market level."
Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius said last Tuesday that negotiations with Gazprom continued and he hoped that "common sense" would prevail.
The government sent its latest proposals to Gazprom on September 25. All information relating to the talks has been kept strictly confidential.
Neverovič earlier said that Russia was no longer raising any issues relating to the EU‘s Third Energy Package under which Gazprom should exit gas transmission business in Lithuania by November 2014.
