"We won't increase spending. We'll revise current expenses," he said.
The prime minister-designate said in an interview to LRT Television on Monday that it had been decided to reduce allocations for the state's investment program to fund the minimum salary increase.
Butkevičius said that on Monday he discussed the draft 2013 budget and the financial capacity to raise the minimum salary with Rimantas Šadžius, who is proposed to be the next finance minister, and specialists at the Finance Ministry.
Butkevičius added that the decision would have to be approved first by the Tripartite Council, which brings together representatives of the government, employers, and trade unions, and then by the Cabinet.
The minimum monthly salary was last raised by 50 litas to 850 litas last July.
