"I think that the minister should be a party-delegated person, for whom the party takes responsibility and who takes responsibility for the party," Šimonytė said in an interview with the paper.
She did not give a direct answer to whether she would accept an offer from the new government to stay in the post.
The minister said that she does believe in technocrats, who would come to the ministry and solve all the problems, but would not be accountable to political parties.
"There will always be somebody to step in. There will be people willing and, I hope, able to take up this post. I haven't made a politician out of myself over those three and a half years. Apparently, there's no point in trying to turn yourself into what you aren't," she said.
