The Seimas of Lithuania approved the compositions of several parliamentary delegations to international parliamentary organizations and assemblies.

Viktor Uspaskich, leader of the Labor Party, will represent Lithuania at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

While debating the composition of this delegation on Thursday, conservative MP Rasa Juknevičienė had suggested that the Labor Party selected another representative who is not standing trial for fraudulent bookkeeping. That same day, the Seimas stripped Uspaskich of his legal immunity. The Labor Party's case hearing will continue in January.

Meanwhile Dangutė Mikutienė of the Labor Party defended Uspaskich and said that he was not convicted and therefore could be appointed to any parliamentary delegation and any other office.

The Seimas also endorsed compositions of several other parliamentary delegations, including delegations to the Baltic Assembly, the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, as well as other bilateral and trilateral assemblies and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
