50 MPs voted in favor of Pacevičius' dismissal, 11 were against and 4 abstained. 7 voting ballots were deemed invalid.
Talking to members of the Seimas ahead of the vote on Tuesday, presidential adviser Jonas Markevičius called on lawmakers to back Pacevičius' own wish to leave the institution responsible for fighting corruption crimes.
"The president signed the decree taking into account the SIS director's own request to retire after his term ends, and therefore I call on Seimas members to back the decree and back the director's dismissal," he said.
It was the second time when President Grybauskaitė asked the Seimas to back Pacevičius' dismissal. Parliament voted down the president's first decree on 18 September. Lawmakers then said they were satisfied with Pacevičius' work and expressed doubt whether he really wanted to leave. Pacevičius himself then was disappointed with the Seimas decision and said he would not continue working after his term ends.
Pacevičius assumed his office in October 2007. His term ends on 17 October.
