Lithuanian parliament revokes legal immunity of MP Neringa Venckienė

Lithuania's parliament on Tuesday satisfied the request from Prosecutor General Darius Valys to prosecute Neringa Venckienė, leader of the the Path of Courage parliamentary party, as well as detain her or otherwise restrict her freedom.

The decision was supported by 80 parliamentarians, 23 voted against and 15 abstained.

Prosecutors want to bring suspicions against Venckienė, a former judge, on six counts of violations of the Criminal Code. She is charged with failing to execute a court order to hand over her niece to the girl's mother Laimutė Stankūnaitė and disobeying police orders.
