I am convinced that Lithuania will carry out this task in a responsible and honorable way seeking well-being and a safe and modern Europe for all EU citizens," he said.
Gedvilas also stressed at the meeting that the EU was going through a difficult period full of challenges when important economic and financial issues were being resolved, and "only successful dialogue with other countries can help reach agreement on key issues."
Talking about Lithuania's internal policy issues and key tasks for the new Seimas, the speaker said that "Lithuania, just as other Baltic states, was badly hit by the 2008 financial crisis and as now the country's economy is gradually recovering, we have to shift our focus back to people. Our ruling majority has declared a clear goal to follow the path of building a welfare state."
