Pacevičius should be let go after expiry of his term in office.
"I truly hope that, after my new proposal, the parliament will decide differently [than it did previously], as it was an application from Pacevičius himself," Grybauskaitė told journalists during a visit in Ignalina district on Saturday.
On 18 September, the parliament rejected the president's proposal to sack Pacevičius. The bid was then supported by 38 of Lithuania's 141 lawmakers, 27 were against and 18 abstained.
Pacevičius has been heading the Special Investigation Service since 17 October 2007, his five-year tenure will expire this month.
