Lithuanian Social Democratic leader tells Polish radio about plans to invite EAPL to join coalition

"We plan to invite the EAPL to the coalition. We plan to do that next week," Butkevičius told Znad Wilii radio on Tuesday.

According to Butkevičius, the Social Democrats and the EAPL have "in essence matching" programmes and that "certain points in the EAPL program should be included into a government program, and talks on posts will start later."

Asked earlier on Tuesday whether the Social Democrats, winners of the recent Seimas elections, had invited his party to coalition talks, EAPL leader Valdemar Tomaševski told BNS that consultations constantly took place, but it was too early for talks.

"I think it's too early to speak about that as we need to wait for election results. Of course, consultations take place, we regularly meet, we meet on TV. We need to wait. I believe all scenarios are possible," Tomaševski said.

The EAPL won eight seats in the Seimas elections and will have a parliamentary group in the Seimas for the first time.
