"The party is not changing its candidates. We'll hold negotiations with the president next week," Algirdas Butkevičius, the future prime minister and leader of the Social Democratic Party, said following the presidium meeting on Friday.

Lithuania's incumbent Ambassador to Belarus Linas Linkevičius will be nominated as the minister of foreign affairs.  Former Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Juozas Olekas will be nominated for the position again. Meanwhile MP Rimantas Sinkevičius should become minister of transport and communications.

The party has two candidates to head the Ministry of Justice – Juozas Bernatonis and Julius Sabatauskas.

Butkevičius also said he had rejected the Labour Party's candidate for the culture minister as he was "a person who worked in the culture business" but had no experience in the area of civil service and culture.

Following the Seimas elections last month, the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, the Labour party, the Order and Justice Party, and the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania signed a coalition agreement and have 86 seats in 141-seat parliament.

Social Democratic leader Algirdas Butkevičius was officially backed as prime minister by the Seimas earlier this week.
