Loreta Graužinienė of the ruling Labor Party was elected Lithuania's new parliamentary speaker.

In a secret ballot on Thursday, she secured 77 votes in Lithuania's 141-seat parliament, while 39 MPs supported Liberal Eugenijus Gentvilas for the post.

Nine ballots were invalidated.
