Alminas Mačiulis, chancellor of the prime minister, says the proposed amendments to the Law on the Government, submitted to the Seimas, would change the organization of work of the government. It is proposed to once again call the institution the Chancellery of the Government and not the Office of the Prime Minister.
"First of all, to restore the duty of the Chancellery of the Government to evaluate draft legal acts submitted to the Cabinet and to eliminate three existing positions of department directors at the Office of the Prime Minister as positions of personal political trust by returning them the status of civil servants," Mačiulis said at a Cabinet sitting on Friday.
Meanwhile Minister of Justice Juozas Bernatonis said at the sitting that the previous Cabinet's decisions on the reorganization of the Chancellery of the Government were anti-constitutional and were aimed at getting rid of unwanted people.
