After the meeting, Butkevičius said that new candidates for ministers of education, social security, and culture would be proposed after the new government takes an oath.
The Labor Party had proposed Loreta Graužinienė as minister of social security and labor, Virginija Baltraitienė as minister of education and science minister, and Kęstutis Daukšys as culture minister.
"It was about Graužinienė and Baltraitienė, we also touched upon the new candidate for culture minister. The president yesterday decided that Daukšys could not hold the post," Butkevičius told reporters.
In his words, the president explained that Daukšys was not suitable due to the "negative information about him that appeared in public."
"It will be very hard for a person to work in the government when negative things are constantly written about him – this causes disbalance in the government operations," Butkevičius, the leader of the ruling Social Democrats, said.
"Other ministers will be proposed after the oath," Butkevičius said after his 30-minute meeting with the president.
Under the law, the president must approve the government line-up before the prime minister-designate can propose its program for parliamentary endorsement. A new government gets a mandate of operations after approval of its program by the majority vote.
