The Committee on State Administration and Local Authorities as well as all Seimas committees which looked into the bills recommended rejecting them.
The Committee on Legal Affairs said e-voting could run counter to the constitutional principles as it would raise doubts over ensuring voting secrecy.
Moreover, the committee said e-voting would be allowed only to Lithuanians living abroad but not for people living in Lithuania, and that would breach the principle of equality.
A group of Lithuanian lawmakers had proposed allowing Lithuanian citizens who love abroad to e-vote in all elections and referenda by logging onto the Central Electoral Commission's website.
Expat Lithuanians have repeatedly expressed their wish to e-vote. The Seimas and the World Lithuanian Community Commission have adopted several resolutions on the issue. The Seimas had previously initiated legal procedures for legalizing e-voting but they failed to secure support in the parliament.
Critics of e-voting doubt the reliability of electronic systems and are concerned about potential inadmissible impact on voters.
