"There are various possible candidates, we will consider all of them, but it is the prime minister's decision, and I will make my mind up after discussing all candidates with the president, as well," he told journalists on Friday.
Algis Čaplikas, leader of Liberal and Center Union, said on Friday that coalition leaders had agreed Liberal Centrists should propose a candidate for interior minister. Nevertheless, the prime minister said all coalition partners – Liberal and Center Union, Liberal Movement and Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats – could nominate candidates.
Kubilius said he had the "responsibility of laying down professional requirements."
The prime minister also stated that the performance of the coalition and the government would reflect differences among the coalition partners.
"The recent actions and statements by the Liberal and Center Union's leaders and members highlighted major differences between the values cherished by Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (conservatives) and the Liberal Centrists. Indeed (…) this will be reflected in future work of the coalition and the government," Kubilius said.
"We will make every effort to ensure stable and efficient work of key institutions and implementation of strategic goals," he added.
Asked to specify the “differences,” he said he meant "attitudes of taking care of state matters and general attitudes towards the situation."
