Vaidotas Beniušis. How Lithuania landed in China’s crosshairs

Several years ago, the chairman of one of Lithuania’s courts received an invitation to participate in a conference in Taiwan. Linas Linkevičius‘ Foreign Ministry and Dalia Grybauskaitė’s Presidential Palace convinced that these plans would be abandoned so as to not draw China’s ire and the story didn’t surface in public. This year, Lithuania was the first in the European Union to permit opening a representation with the word “Taiwan” in its title. Beijing began getting payback. How did this happen?
