"I have said all the time that I never link and will never link the immunity and my work in the Cabinet and for the state. Of course, I had hopes and wishes that the coalition partners would back me but they have their own thoughts and they will come out someday. They voted and that's that," Uspaskich told reporters.

According to him, actions of the Social Democrats are a matter of their conscience. Uspaskich said after the vote that he felt himself a free man.

"I feel a free man and I will be able to properly do my state job as until now I've had to try to defend myself, keep on walking around, and now I don't have to," he said.

Uspaskich also said that President Dalia Grybauskaitė was exxerting direct influence on the Labor Party case. "Prosecutors and courts are not free, it’s a natural thing," he said.

Uspaskich is facing up to 8 years in prison. He strongly denies all charges and says the case is politically motivated.
