“President thinks that there are no reproaches for my candidacy,” he told reporters after meeting with Grybauskaitė on Friday.

“It wasn’t my first meeting with the president, hence today we discussed the initiatives, which we decided to implement, and I am pleased that we share the same approaches to the restructuring of the national healthcare system institutions, the reform of the national health council,” Andriukaitis said adding that they also shared the same views on the primary healthcare reform, changes to the medicine pricing policy, and transparency of public tenders.

Andriukaitis, 61, said that the “president strongly supported” the stances he had expressed.

“Just to notify the patients, we will truly seek to drive the prices of medication lower, will seek to improve the efficiency of treatment since we have to address mortality rates,” Andriukaitis said.

Asked whether he spoke with the president in English, he told reporters in English that this language was not a problem for him. He then added in Lithuanian that he had occasionally spoken to Grybauskaitė in English at various international conferences.
