She revised her plans of going to Lithuania's second-largest city Kaunas for a meeting with Mayor Andrius Kupčinskas and a visit to Pažaislis monastery in order to fly back to Prague later on Wednesday.
"We planned on staying here for two days and were intended to go to Kaunas tomorrow but you are probably aware of the current situation in the Czech Republic and the flooding there, so we have to go back early to give our help and support back home," Nemcova told journalists at Lithuania's parliament on Wednesday.
Lithuania's Parliamentary Speaker Vydas Gedvilas said he conveyed condolences of the Lithuanian nation over the disaster, expressing regret over the changed plans to visit Kaunas.
During her stay in Vilnius, the Czech parliamentary speaker met with President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, Parliamentary Speaker Vydas Gedvilas, and members of the parliamentary group for relations with the Czech Republic.
The meetings addressed priorities of the Lithuanian presidency over the European Union (EU) Council, Lithuanian-Czech economic and cultural cooperation, as well as energy security matters.
The Czech capital Prague declared a state of emergency on Monday, some companies and institutions closed, communication was interrupted. The flooding that started in Central Europe due to heavy rainfall has claimed 10 lives and caused evacuation of thousands of people.
