"I would say Lithuania is on a good track, is really doing progress and it's not in a particularly difficult situation in the area of gender equality in comparison with other EU member-states," he told a news conference on Friday.

The EC member recalled the gender equality problems emphasized by the commission, namely, equal pay for the same work and support to children under the age of three, which is important in connection to the possibility for women to return to the labor market after giving birth.

Ciobanu-Dordea is in Vilnius on Friday to attend a high-level conference on equality.

Speaking at a news conference of the event, director of the Vilnius-based European Institute of Gender Equality Virginija Langbakk says the funding of efforts for gender equality has decreased over the past few years.
