Established last year, Adamkus' library-museum has taken over all functions of the institute and broadened the area of its operations. Adamkus was Lithuania's president in 1998-2003 and 2004-2009.

The library-museum aims to become a centre of culture, art and science, mainly focusing on research in Lithuania's political, economic and cultural life in the 20th and the 21st century.
