Gerimantas Statinis, head of the expedition, said the journey would last almost two weeks, and the expedition would return to Lithuania on 28 August.

"We'll take a bus to Riga, and fly to Moscow from Riga, and then from Moscow to Krasnoyarsk. We'll be met by Antanas Rasiulis, chairman of the local Lithuanian community, in Krasnoyarsk," Statinis told BNS.

One of the main purposes of this expedition is to visit a museum in Nizhniy Ingash and hand over exhibits from Lithuania.

"We’ll leave these souvenirs at the museum. We are trying to organize a small press conference. We have contact information of local press. We want the local press and authorities to know that we came to commemorate Stulginskis," Statinis said.

Members of the expedition will later visit places of deportation of Stulginskis and several other famous Lithuanian deportees.

The expedition is supported by Stulginskis' daughter Aldona Stulginskaitė-Juozevičienė, currently living in Chicago, and Speaker of the Seimas Irena Degutienė.

Stulginskis was an outstanding political figure of inter-war Lithuania, a signatory to the Act of Independence of 16 February 1918, chairman of the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party, speaker of the Constituent Seimas and Lithuania's president.

He was arrested by the Soviet authorities on 13 June 1941 and deported to Krasnoyarsk Region. He returned to Lithuania in 1956. Lithuania's second president died at the age of 84 and was buried in Kaunas in 1969.
