"Of course, the election will have impact on the initialing of the association agreement but I want to assure you that this election will be exemplary for the first time in Georgia's history as no improper resources, state resources will be used to the advantage of one candidate, and, of course, the election will be fair and in compliance with all requirements," Ivanishvili told journalists following his meeting with Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius.

The Georgian prime minister also assured that democratic reforms are being carried out in his country in order to curb the powers of president and prime minister.

"Our attitude to democratic reforms will be visible also when powers of the president and the prime minister are reduced. (...) you would be surprised if you knew what power they have at the moment. But changes will take place and amendments will be adopted," he said.

According to Ivanishvili, a judicial reform has been carried out, the Labor Code has been amended and arbitrage institutions are being established.

"You'll be able to see it yourself, if you come," the Georgian prime minister said, inviting his Lithuanian counterpart to come to Georgia.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Butkevičius welcomed democratic process in Georgia and expressed Lithuania's supports for Georgia's EU and NATO integration.

"We are interested in Georgia's success at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, and I heard from the prime minister that he will definitely attend it, even, we hope, with the president. (...) We also heard that Georgia is following the path of democracy and (...) conversations with the opposition have been taking place. We are also very happy about those processes in Georgia," Butkevičius said.

The Lithuanian prime minister said he and his Georgian counterpart discussed economic and energy issues, agreed to hold a business forum and expand the Viking project to Georgia.

"We have very close political relations and we would like to have equally intensive economic relations where we still have a lot of potential," Ivanishvili said.

Georgia hopes to sign an association agreement with the EU during the upcoming EU Eastern Partnership Suimmit in Vilnius in late November.
