Due to the emergency situation in the country, this year the diplomas were awarded during a solemn graduation ceremony that was held virtually.

The diplomas were sent to the University graduates by courier. Along with the documents certifying successful completion of the studies, the future specialists also received special gifts that helped to create a festive atmosphere: a personal greeting from the LSMU Rector, Prof. Remigijus Žaliūnas, and a video recording of the virtual graduation ceremony, which included warm wishes from top State officials, University leaders, the text of the oath of taken by the future doctors, and a brief history of the development and growth of the University.

Such a diploma award ceremony was held for the first in the history of the University. Hence, many congratulations to the graduates emphasized the uniqueness of the global situation in 2020, the increased respect for health care professionals and the fact that such a different diploma award ceremony organised in such a special time will be truly memorable for the LSMU’s graduates.

His Excellency President Gitanas Nausėda also congratulated the University graduates and the entire community, who emphasized that health science studies are among the most difficult ones, requiring the most dedication, knowledge and skills.

“You are graduating in an unprecedented time. The society is still experiencing the consequences of the pandemic. These days, everybody appreciates the contribution of doctors, physicians, and nurses more than ever before. Your generation is unique: you play the role of a shield between the society and the pandemic,” said the President Gitanas Nausėda.

Prof. Remigijus Žaliūnas, the Rector of the LSMU, thanked the graduates for choosing to study at the LSMU.

“I thank your parents, your relatives and your friends for supporting you throughout the entire study period and for believing in your choice and success. Completion of the most competitive studies will definitely open plenty of opportunities for your successful future career. However, your education is not over yet because health sciences take lifelong learning,” said the Rector.

Congratulations on joining the elite of the society

The LSMU graduates were also congratulated by the Minister of Health Aurelijus Veryga and the Minister of Education, Science and Sports Algirdas Monkevičius via virtual communication means.

“The COVID-19 pandemic that shattered the world has revealed the importance of the work that healthcare professionals do. I wish you success in choosing a career and in your further studies,” said A. Veryga.

“The university diploma that you hold in your hands is not just a symbol of the road you have already travelled but also a reflection of your personality, which has changed a lot during your studies. You are all extremely talented and wonderful people, and have become a part of the elite of the society,” said the Minister A. Monkevičius in his speech to the graduates, emphasizing that health is the foundation of the well-being, peace and prosperity.

“I encourage you to constantly improve, look ahead and be happy,” wished Prof. Daiva Rastenytė, the Chancellor of the LSMU Medical Academy.

Professor Mindaugas Malakauskas, the Chancellor of the LSMU Veterinary Academy, wished the graduates to cherish professional values, be open to scientific innovations, and become an example for others.

In addition to 363 future doctors, university diplomas have also been awarded to 140 graduates of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, including 22 students from abroad. In addition, 90 future pharmacists and 93 public health professionals also graduated this year, while the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has prepared 84 graduates, including 3 foreign students.
