According to a press release circulated by the Foreign Ministry, Clinton stated her position in a congratulatory message to Linkevičius.
"Clinton is sure that the close US-Lithuania partnership in addressing global challenges, as well as in embracing global opportunities, will continue in the years to come, both bilaterally and through multilateral frameworks," according to the ministry.
"The US Secretary of State writes that she is particularly proud of our joint efforts these last four years to advance global security and democratic values," reads the press release.
Linkevičius, a member of the Social Democratic Party, took over the lead of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry from conservative Audronius Ažubalis after a new center-left government took oath in mid-December.
