"The book is one of the few attempts to give an insight into uninterrupted political history of Lithuania from establishment of the state until its accession to trans-Atlantic structures in 2004," the ministry said.

Participants of the event will be welcomed by Foreign Minister Audronius Ažubalis.

Authors of the monograph are prominent historians and recognized specialists in their fields. Professor Bumblauskas provides insight into Lithuanian state development and achievements from the old times until the decline of the Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth in 1795.

Years under the rule of tsarist Russia and processes of national revival are examined by professor Kulakauskas, while Eidintas, a professor and an ambassador, examines the birth of a modern state in 1918, progress of its domestic and foreign policies and interwar challenges.

The complex processes covering Soviet and Nazi occupations, the Holocaust, armed and unarmed resistance to the aggressors, the 1990 declaration of independence and Lithuania's final embrace of Europe were analyzed by young doctor of historic sciences Tamošaitis, who has already authored several monographs and history textbooks.
