Following the meeting in New York, Ažubalis said Lithuanian-Israeli relations reached a new level of constructive partnership.

"We have exchanged over 20 high-level visits over the last three years. The agenda of our bilateral relations has expanded in many areas," the minister said.

"We are glad about rapidly developing economic relations between Lithuania and Israel, the participation of Israeli scientists and businessmen in the LIFE SCIENCES BALTICS 2012 forum in Vilnius in September and direct flights between Tel Aviv and Vilnius, launched in June. I believe that the opening of your country's embassy in Vilnius would further promote bilateral dialogue," the Lithuanian foreign minister said.

The ministers also discussed bilateral political and economic cooperation, closer partnership in the United Nations, the development of EU-Israeli relations, the Middle East peace process, the security situation in the region, issues related to Iran and the situation in Syria, the ministry said.

The Lithuanian and Israeli foreign ministers met in New York on the sidelines of the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly.
