"The main work has been done, i.e., the cooperation agreement between our ministries has been signed. The treaty stipulates areas and forms of cooperation. A possibility of consultations is envisaged along with cooperation in peace-keeping missions, the United Nations and training by exchange of students and experts," Juknevičienė, who is on a visit to Beijing, told BNS.
In her words, the agreement also discusses cooperation in the area of classified information.
"This is what was discussed at the meeting: joint exercises, particularly, exchange of lecturers and students between their National Defense Academy and our Baltic Defense College. This is where we'll start. The meeting also paves way for top-level visits and cooperation between our armies," Juknevičienė said in a telephone interview from Beijing.
She said the international counter-piracy operation off the coasts of Africa was one of the areas for cooperation between Lithuanian and Chinese armed forces.
During the visit in China, Juknevičienė is accompanied by the ministry's Capacities and Munitions Director General Brigadier General Almantas Leika.
Juknevičienė's agenda for Wednesday includes a meeting with General Caihau Xu, vice-president of the Central Military Commission that commands the Armed Forces together with the Public Service.
