The Lithuanian center of 2.11 m (6'11") started feeling tarsal pain during the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Venezuela. Upon return to Lithuania, it emerged that Javtokas would not go to London.
"Multiple tests have shown that Robertas suffered a stress fracture," one of the Lithuanian team's doctors, Vytenis Trumpickas, said. "It means that he'll need to wear a special cast for three weeks, and a month and a half of rehabilitation will follow," he said.
Trumpickas added that Javtokas' tarsus might break if he tried to continue playing.
Javtokas has been a member of the Lithuanian national team since 2001.
The national team's coach Kęstutis Kemzūra called the news "a huge loss."
"It's hard to express how we'll miss him, and not only on the court but also outside. Now others will have to gear up. Not only the taller players but everyone will have to do not their own job and a bit extra for Robertas," Kemzūra said.
The Lithuanian baskteball team is leaving for Moscow on Saturday where they scheduled to play against the Russian team on Sunday. Fans will be able to see the national team off to London in Vilnius on 24 July, when Lithuania will play the final friendly against Iceland.
