"It's our moral commitment and our human debt to everyone who contributed to the university's establishment," VMU President Professor Zigmas Lydeka said at a press conference for the occasion.
"We also want to be someone who carries out a certain academic ambassadorial function in the world," he added.
Lydeka also said a foundation would be opened at the VMU representation, and it should help financial aid reach Lithuania. Everyone who wants to donate to an institution, a hospital, or an individual person in Lithuania will be able to do that via the foundation.
"I really hope that relations will grow stronger. I think VMU will help provide new opportunities not only for Lithuanian students. We already have some projects, talks with several great schools are ongoing. VMU is on the right path and is a leader among Lithuanian universities," VMU Associate Professor Edvinas Minkštimas, working on the US representation project, said.
According to Lydeka, VMU plans to open representations in Europe.
The main goal of Vytautas Magnus University North America is to promote international development and develop partnerships with key North American schools, universities and education and culture projects. VMU NA will also coordinate student and teacher exchange.
