The Foreign Ministry said diplomatic relations with the country in Oceania would encourage cooperation in international organizations, namely, the United Nations (UN) and specialized agencies.

"Considering Lithuania's running for permanent membership in the UN Security Council for the 2014-2015 period, support from every UN member-state is important. Cooperation with countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific Ocean also plays a key role in the general foreign policies of the European Union," the ministry said.

The Solomon Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean, in Oceania east of New Guinea.
