"We can conclude that, in our opinion, our relations are moving in the right direction. Following a lengthy break, a meeting of the economic and trade working group took place, and a meeting of the transport working group will be held in the future. We agreed on regular cooperation, a contact plan for two years, which will add organization to our relations," Linkevičius told BNS after the meeting with his Russian counterpart.
In Linkevičius' words, Lithuanian-Russian relations "are put on track" after there had been no dialogue for the last two years until the start of this year.
The meeting also touched upon the issue of Schengen visas for Russian citizens, the Lithuanian foreign minister said.
"In Kaliningrad, to my mind, there's no such issue. Our consulates issue almost 100,000 visas every year, including almost 50 percent of long-term visas. It would take less than ten years for everyone who would theoretically want to move to the Schengen area to do so. It has been pretty much convincing." Linkevičius said.
The also reminded Lavrov that Lithuania still pays almost the highest gas price to Russian gas company Gazprom.
"We don't think we deserve that. There's no clear answer but we know that our energy representatives are keeping constant contact. We concluded that as a positive process. The Third Package requirements are no longer raised as a problem. The Third Package requirements are no longer questioned," Linkevičius said.
Issues of history also remain on the agenda, the Lithuanian foreign minister has said.
"They are on the agenda. There are certain things which have not really been resolved, they exist and they have not gone anywhere. But let's start from work we need to finish and then it will be easier to talk about other issues which are complicated," Linkevičius said.
Linkevičius arrived in Kaliningrad for a meeting of ministers of the Council of the Baltic Sea States.
It was the second meeting of the Lithuanian and Russian foreign ministers this year. They also met on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in February.
