"The chief of defense has brought Christmas fairing, including traditional pastry, Lithuanian bread, and meat products. A Christmas tree has also been flown from Lithuania to remind them of home," the Ministry of Defense said in a press release.

Pocius, who arrived in Afghanistan on Monday, has met in Kabul with Deputy Commander of the International Joint Command of the NATO Special operations Forces of the International Security Assistance Force’s (ISAF) Major General Javier Cabeza Taberne, the ISAF command and discussed preparations for withdrawal in late 2013.

Pocius and representatives of the NATO command also discussed the participation of Lithuanian troops in the training of Afghanistan's national army and police forces, and challenges international forces would face as the ISAF operation is coming to an end.

The delegation led by the chief of defense also met in Kabul with Gintaras Bagdonas, head of Lithuania's Special Mission in Afghanistan.

During the visit, Pocius is accompanied by Brigadier General Vilmantas Tamošaitis, chief of staff of the Joint Headquarters of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, US Defense Attaché to Lithuania Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey L. Jennette, and others.

The visit of Lithuania's chief of defense should last until the end of this week.

Around 260 Lithuanian troops are currently deployed in Afghanistan.
