According to Lietuvos Žinios daily, Lithuanian diplomats were offered the fourth floor of the building, a total of 640 square meters. Italy's Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi, who is coming to Lithuania on Thursday, would sign an agreement with his Lithuanian counterpart, Linas Linkevičius, on the moral and material compensation.
Lietuvos Žinios cited its sources as saying that the compensation includes use of Palazzo Blumenstihl facilities free of charge for a period of 99 years, while annual rent would cost about 0.5 million euros.
Villa Lituania was owned by Lithuania from 1937 until the Soviet Union occupied Lithuania and moved Russian diplomats into the building. The Lithuanian part of the embassy is estimated at more than 30 million litas (EUR 8.7m).
