"I am convinced and believe that you will understand me saying that it is strategically important for us to be friends, it is crucial to focus our efforts and stop wasting energy on conflicts and clarification of all types of problems that neighbors always have, we should focus on the essence instead," the minister said in an address to Lithuanian ambassadors who assembled for an annual meeting in Vilnius on Thursday.
"Strategically speaking, our partnership is vital for our country's future, for the future of Europe and the future of the region. All of our partners understand this, we also understand this," Linkevičius said.
"Of course, this should not be done at each other's expense, this is out of the question. But I think we're on the right path and we're gradually intensifying the relations," the minister added.
To specify examples of more active cooperation, the minister mentioned meetings of parliamentarians and a joint visit of Lithuanian, Polish, Danish, and Dutch foreign ministers to Ukraine.
In Linkevičius' words, strategic partnership between Lithuania and Poland makes sense for security and economy as well as when it comes to defending common positions in the EU.
